VIDEO: Natrix Question

The natrix question type lets you combine text response, drop down, checkbox, and radio buttons into rows in a single question. The natrix question can turn a single question into a short form.

To set up a natrix question:

  1. Drag and drop a natrix question from the Advanced Questions section of the palette to your survey.
  2. By default the question comes with three variables, one text response, one drop down, and one radio button. To edit these, click on them. To add more variables click the + Add button in the variables section. Change the format of the row with the Switch to type drop down.
  3. Add and configure Choices for drop down or radio button variable rows. Add choices using the + Add button or with the Bulk option. You can also give each choice a Score or SPSS short code to answer choices.
  4. Configure the options for each variable row. See below for details.
  5. Configure Display and Options settings for the entire question. See below for details.
  6. Save your survey.

Drop Down Options
SettingDescription
StaticIf the question is using alphabetic or random ordering, this row will remain in place.
OptionalMakes this row optional, uncheck to make it required.
Blank choiceThe value that displays when no answer has been selected.
Alphabetize choicesAlphabetizes the answer choices for this row.
Randomize choicesShows the answer choices in this row in a random order per respondent.
Text Response Options
SettingDescription
StaticIf the question is using alphabetic or random ordering, this row will remain in place.
OptionalMakes this row optional, uncheck to make it required.
MultilineCheck to make your text box more multiple lines. Specify the how many Rows your text box will have.
ColumnsIf the text box is a single line, specify how wide the text box is by entering a value from 1 to 100.
ValidationRequire respondents to enter data in a particular format.
Initial ValueText that is prepopulated in the text response box.
Checkbox Options
SettingDescription
StaticIf the question is using alphabetic or random ordering, this row will remain in place.
Radio Buttons Options
SettingDescription
StaticIf the question is using alphabetic or random ordering, this row will remain in place.
OptionalMakes this row optional, uncheck to make it required.
AppearanceSelect how you want your radio buttons to display. Options are vertical, horizontal, star rating, or a combo box.
Alphabetize choicesAlphabetizes the answer choices for this row.
Randomize choicesShows the answer choices in this row in a random order per respondent.

1st Column SizeSets the width between question options and text.
