Restricting Responses Per Computer or IP Address

Surveys are set up to allow multiple responses per computer by default. You can set access restriction to determine how many times a respondent can take a survey per computer or IP address.

To set an access restriction:

  1. Click the settings icon settings icon
  2. Click Access Restriction.
  3. Under Access Mode, select how often you want to allow a survey to be taken per computer or IP address.

There are three options to restrict survey taking per computer or IP address:

  • Many times per computer: Allows many respondents to take your survey from the same computer or device, unless they are accessing a survey from a link with an invite code in it.
  • Once per computer: Allows only one respondent to take a survey from a particular device. This option uses cookies/sessions to restrict access. A respondent can take a survey more than once from the same computer by using blockers, clearing their cache, or using an incognito window or private browsing.
  • Once per location: Allows only one respondent per IP address. This option may cause problems if you are sending survey to an organization, school, or workplace where everyone shares an IP address, or if more than one person tries to take a survey from the same library, coffee shop, or airport.
TIP! If you would like to set up tracking or restrict access to a survey with a one-time-only code or link, see: Requiring an Invite Link or Code to Take Surveys.
