Monitoring & Troubleshooting Automations

If you set up automations, you can keep track of how often your actions are being triggered successfully and troubleshoot failing automations.

With automation statistics and details you can:

  • View recent automation activity and statistics.
  • Get error messages and diagnostics for failed events.
  • View details for failed, successful, or pending actions.
  • Retry all failed events for a particular automation.

Click one of the following topics for more information:

Viewing Automations Activity and Statistics

Automation data and a feed of recent activity is shown on the main automations page. The recent activity list shows all actions on automations, including edits to particular automations and a short summary of each event that has failed or succeeded.

Automations data can be viewed in three different ways:

  • Stats: Shows counts for total, completed, pending, and failed actions, as well as a success rate for all automations. This page also allows you to filter recent activity and statistics by date range.
  • Timeline: A line graph of completed and failed actions by date.
  • Type: A bar graph of actions by integration type.
Getting Diagnostics for Failed Events and Viewing Action Details

Failed automations are listed in the Recent Activity feed of the automations page. Automations may fail for a variety of reasons. For example, a Facebook integration could fail because the authorization certificate it requires expires periodically, requiring you to re-authenticate your integration.

There are two ways to view error messages when an automation fails:

  • By email.
  • By looking action details.
Get Error Messages by Email

Keep track of high-priority automations by setting them to email you error messages if they fail. Error emails include the failed automation’s name, the action type that failed, and an error message. This information can help you correct problems with your automation and is helpful if you need to escalate a problem to our support team.

To set up automatic emails for error messages:

  1. Select Automations from the Tools menu.
  2. Select the automation from the automations list.
  3. Select Receive Error Emails.
  4. Click Save.
View Error Messages and other Action Details

If you see failed actions in your recent activity feed for an automation you haven’t set to email you error messages, you can view error messages in the action details of your automation. You can also look at action details for actions that have completed successfully or are still pending—for example, see what was or will be posted to Facebook for a Facebook automation.

To view action details:

  1. Select Automations from the Tools menu.
  2. Select the automation from the list.
  3. In the Actions section, there are three colored flags: green for completed, yellow for pending, and red for failed. Click a flag to bring up the Action Events menu for that type.
  4. Click on an action in the list to bring up its details.
Retrying Failed Actions

When you have solved an issue that was causing an automation to fail, you can automatically trigger all previously failed actions. This way you won’t lose actions and can guarantee that the problem that caused the failure(s) has been solved.

  1. Select Automations from the Tools menu.
  2. Select the automation from the list.
  3. Select the red flag in the Actions section to bring up the Action Events menu.
  4. Select Resend ALL failed action events from the Actions menu.
