Changing the Size of a Text Response Box

Size your text box to accommodate a desired answer length by adjusting the width of or add rows to the text box in a text response, text response grid, or natrix question. Multi row text boxes are always at maximum width. To set a minimum or maximum number of words or characters with answer validation.

To change the width of a text response question:

  1. Select the question you want to edit.
  2. Click Display in the Options tab of the palette.
  3. Enter a value between 1 and 100 into Columns. Larger numbers increase the width of your text box.
  4. Preview your changes by clicking Save and clicking the preview icon preview icon.

To add rows to a text response question:

  1. Select the question you want to edit.
  2. Click Display in the Options tab of the palette.
  3. Click Multiline and enter the number of Rows you want your question to have. The maximum number of rows is 25.
  4. Preview your changes by clicking Save and clicking the preview icon preview icon.

To change the width or add rows to a text box in a text response grid or natrix question:

  1. Select the question you want to edit.
  2. Click Variables and select the text box variable you want to adjust.
  3. Click Multiline and enter the number of rows you want your box to have. Or enter a value between 0 and 100 to adjust the width of a one-line text box.
  4. Preview your changes by clicking Save and clicking the preview icon preview icon.
